Suwon Fortress Cherry Blossom Peak

The cherry blossom season at Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is currently in its prime. Because the 2026 spring has been warmer than average, the blossoms have arrived about 2 to 7 days earlier than historical norms.

2026 Viewing Window

  • Current Status: As of today, April 6, 2026, Suwon Hwaseong is at Peak Bloom.

  • Best Time to Watch: Now through April 9th.

  • The Forecast: While the flowers are currently stunning, local weather reports indicate rain and strong winds are expected over the coming weekend (April 11–12). This will likely cause the petals to fall quickly, so your best chance for "full bloom" photos is within the next 48 to 72 hours.

Recommended Viewing Spots

To get the most out of your visit to the fortress, head to these specific points:

  1. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace: The plaza and surrounding walls are lined with mature trees that create a dense pink canopy.

  2. Hwahongmun Gate (Floodgate): One of the most photographed spots where the blossoms frame the traditional architecture and the stream below.

  3. Bangasuryujeong Pavilion: Offers a scenic view of a pond surrounded by cherry trees—ideal for a picnic or a rest.

  4. Paldalsan Hill: A slightly higher elevation that provides a panoramic "carpet" view of the blossoms against the city backdrop.

Pro-Tips for 2026

  • Beat the Crowds: Since peak bloom coincides with early April, weekdays (Monday–Thursday) are significantly less crowded than the upcoming weekend. Aim to arrive by 8:00 AM for soft lighting and fewer people in your shots.

  • Night Viewing: The fortress is illuminated at night. Walking along the stone walls with the glowing blossoms under the moonlight is a completely different (and highly recommended) experience.

  • Transportation: Expect heavy traffic near the Suwon Haenggung area. Taking the subway to Suwon Station and a quick bus/taxi to the palace is usually faster than driving and searching for parking.
